Five Nice Shopify Themes

I’m a big fan of Shopify…it’s no secret. More and more people do all their gift shopping (and selling) online, and I think we owe it to ourselves to have a nice time whilst we’re there. So, in an attempt to champion beautifully designed shopping experiences, here are 5 of my favourite themes on Shopify.

Clearflex: Boutique

Responsive, clean and with just the right amount of interesting detail to make your shop unique, Clearflex theme is money well spent.

Pop: Omocha

Also clean and made by the very helpful and talented Tetchi, this theme is perfect for those with bright and vivid products who want a classy place to show them off.

Stitchy Theme

A little bit of shameless self-promotion here, but I’m pleased with the way this theme has been used and adapted by people who have purchased it, so I wanted to point it out to anyone who was interested. Also, being one of the only themes under $100 I think it’s worth saying that Stitchy Theme is a bargain :)

Flex: Raven Prints

Well thought through, striking and some nice responsive touches, Flex is a gudd’un :)

Minimal: Music

A nice big banner area, simple lines and shapes with a centre aligned logo…Minimal is definitely a favourite.

Stitchy Theme on Shopify

I’ve just released my first theme for Shopify, available for purchase on their Theme Store.

It’s a simple, friendly and fully social media’d up shopping theme with a second preset/variation in there called Water Colours to show you how it can be customised.

There are options to add/remove homepage carousels/content, change the site typography/colours and even how the buttons themselves. Why not head over to Shopify and have a gander :)

A couple of thank yous are necessary for this being possible. Firstly a thank you to my wife for the loan of the images on the first shop, which are from my wife’s business ‘The Homeless Button Society’ (on hold since Noah’s arrival). Also importantly, a huge thank you to Binky Bristol for the photos of the beautiful t-shirts that embellish the second variation, Water Colours. Their t-shirts are awesome, and without these lovely images, it would be hard to show off the possible combinations of products and design that can work with the theme.

New Life

I thought it might be worth saying that fantastically I’ve recently become a Dad, to a 7lb5oz baby called Noah, who is now taking up most of my spare time! There’s a picture of him below, but for all those who were waiting for me to return from my paternity leave, I am now back, so looking foward to being in touch in the coming weeks.

A new site for some new sites

October and November have been busy months for themosse.com as I’ve managed to move office, buy a bike, and work on a bunch of interesting projects. Below’s a quick photo of my new desk (soon to be even newer when I move into the larger room downstairs) in my new office at 54-56 Park Street. There’s some other space available if anyone’s interested, details can be found at deckchair.co.uk.

I’ve also been working on an interesting project with my new neighbours at brand spanking new Goram + Vincent (formerly Digby Digital and Double Art ). It’s the new My Drinkaware web app which has all sorts of helpful tips and ways of keeping an eye on what you’re drinking, through a very slick and sophisticated web interface.

Along with some other projects I’ve been doing that you can also see in my work area, I thought I’d feature this little mouse that I was asked to illustrate recently.

A few sites live

This is just a quick post to point you in the direction of a few sites I’ve recently put live.

The first two are sites I worked on with DNA, where I was in charge of the Web Design, Illustrations and XHTML/CSS. The final site is one that presented a few technical challenges as it involved delivery of client-specific video preview areas amongst other things, but I enjoyed getting my hands dirty in some flow-player coding and my colleagues CMS.

A new look

I’ve had my head very firmly down working on lots of interesting projects recently which hasn’t left me much time to think about my own website. However, I was once told that if you want something done, you should ask a busy person, so I decided to refresh my site anyway!

Rather then create the site from scratch and reconsider my own branding (which can be a lengthy process), I’ve adapted a theme from the guys at Theme Trust called ‘Filtered’ that does exactly what I need for now and means I can go back to concentrating on other people’s sites :]

Any thoughts always appreciated.

I love icons

Every now and then, I get asked to come up with a set of icons for a project as part of the design, and here’s some I’ve been recently working on for a project that’s in it’s infancy.

These icons were to compliment but at the same time augment an existing style that the client was using, and I’ve enjoyed making them :]

Sneak Preview

It’s been a long time coming as it’s a personal project, but The Homeless Button Society’s new website is coming to a inter-web-technology-online-net-space near you soon. Exactly when is up to my lovely wife as it is her business venture, but I couldn’t keep it to myself any longer, so here are a few snippets to keep you busy in the meantime:

It has an easily managed and lovely basket and checkout if you fancy buying something..no more clicks whisking you away before you’re ready, just a few options and an easy way to amend your order as you’re going along.

Some little flourishes of design to keep you interested.

A fresh typography in the logo that I can thank Max at Studio Chirpy for his help on.

And a flickr-fed gallery that updates when flickr does, so only one place to tweak the gallery content.

I’m looking forward to getting this site live…I just hope someone buys something!
